Features: 
  • Under the Software Assurance Programme, customers acquire the right to install any new release of products covered in the agreement during the term of their coverage. 
  • Resources (such as Internet access and software) and equipment (printers, and fax machines) can be shared across the organisation, and users can fax directly from their workstations. Workstations with Internet connections can securely access email, internal Web sites, network files, and business applications; Windows Mobile-based or Smartphone devices can securely access email, schedules, and contacts. 
    Tools are included for creating a customised Web site and email domain that resides on the organisation's own server.
  • The organisation is protected from unauthorised users and data loss with:
    • Built-in firewall protection and security-enhanced remote access
    • Tools to manage and monitor Internet access, block spammers, and automatically remove dangerous email attachments to help prevent virus attacks
    • Automatic data backup and the ability to retrieve and restore previous versions
  • Automated patch and update management tools keep workstations and servers up to date, and a daily email report helps identify issues before they occur. A green check indicates that the system is healthy, or the report details actions necessary for attaining green-check status.

    Small Business Server 2003 R2 Premium Edition includes the technologies of SBS 2003 Standard Edition as well as improved database and firewall technologies and tools for developing Web pages and Web server applications. It provides small organisations with many of the features used by large organisations — email, an Internet connection, internal Web sites, remote access, support for mobile devices, file and printer sharing, backup, and restore — in an integrated product that supports up to 75 users.

    Included Technologies: Small Business Server 2003 Standard combines these Windows server technologies:

    • The core Windows Server technologies, including network tools and network security; file, print, and application sharing; and firewall protection (but not including technologies appropriate only to medium-to-large enterprises)
    • SharePoint Services for an internal Web site
    • Exchange Server 2003 and Outlook for email, messaging, personal information management, and shared calendaring
    • Server Update Services for automated network-wide patch and update management
    • Shared Fax Service
    • SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition for integrated data management and reporting
    • Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 for firewall security and tools to manage and monitor internal Internet access 

    Licensing and Installation: This product includes two types of licenses:

    • A server license
    • Five Client Access Licenses (CALs)

    A CAL is required for every device or user that accesses the server. With device CALs, any user can access the server on the licensed device. With user CALs, licensed users can access the server from any device. The CALs included in Small Business Server 2003 Standard Edition can be used for either users or devices. More CALs for SBS can be ordered in packs of five user or device CALs.

    A new feature of the R2 release is that these CALs can be used to access additional servers running Windows Server 2003, Exchange Server 2003, and SQL Server 2005 Workgroup Edition on the SBS 2003 R2 network.

    Installing this product requires a licence key and installation media. Within 14 days of placing your order, instructions for obtaining the licence key will be sent to your organisation's registered e-mail address and free installation media will be delivered to your organisation's registered address.
